Program
Join us for a TorahTrek Retreat in the redwood forest of Hendy Woods State Park along the Navarro River in Mendicino County, California. Immersed in the natural world, participants receive time, space and tools to explore their connection with God, refresh the spirit, and receive the gifts of spiritual practice in wilderness with like-minded people. Everyday Rabbi Comins leads Jewish Wilderness Spirituality activities that include moving meditation, personal and traditional prayer, sacred chant, Torah study and writing.

The program centers on hitbodedut alone time for spiritual purpose in nature. Participants choose a (safe and supervised) solo site amidst the trees or along the river where they return each day for increasing periods of time. In the evenings, the group relaxes, sings, learns and processes the day’s events with each other and Rabbi Comins.
Redwood trees are among the oldest and most majestic beings on earth. The word “awesome” is not a cliche when one is in their company. To engage in spiritual practice with the support of their presence and the protection of their canopies is a special experience.
The retreat culminates with a day of joyous, Shabbat celebration.
Retreat Center
River’s Bend Retreat Center, located outside of Philo, California along the Navarro River and on the border of Hendy Woods State Park in Mendicino County, CA., is nestled in grassy meadows and towering redwoods. Retreatants enjoy access to the river and its swimming hole.
The staff maintains an organic flower and vegetable garden and serves home-cooked, fresh-from-the garden meals in the dining room. Rustic cabins and modern lodge accommodations are available. Retreatants may also camp with access to showers and restrooms.
In the heart of wine country, the Retreat can be part of a larger trip to Northern California.
