TorahTrek Guides Council

TorahTrek Guides are the heart and soul of the emerging Jewish Wilderness Spirituality movement. They set the standards for innovative, exciting and safe programming in wilderness, including backcountry leadership skills and emergency medical training. Since character and skills are as important as knowledge for wilderness leaders, new guides must pass an apprenticeship phase and be elected into the council.

The Guides Council will function as an incubator of Jewish Wilderness Spirituality programming, encouraging Guides to start their own work projects, and jointly develop new curriculum and programs. The Council will enable members to share ideas and resources through social media and the TorahTrek web site. Guides will be asked to participate in on-going curriculum challenges, such as improving the Bar/Bat Mitzvah experience, or teaching prayer outdoors.

TorahTrek staff will foster the Guides entrepreneurial initiatives by encouraging synergies among members, offering counsel, and, when appropriate, offering insurance, advertising and the TorahTrek name for new programs. TorahTrek Guides will be invited to participate in the creative processes of TorahTrek’s growth by staffing existing TorahTrek programs, by developing and leading new TorahTrek programs, by contributing to TorahTrek’s ongoing curriculum projects, and by serving on Advisory Committees.
